Elements of Truth — ISTD 2022 Student Assessment
TYPOGRAPHY | EDITORIAL | BOOKBINDING
How can a primarily typographic design response explore and reflect the impact and influence of Euclid's Elements in shaping world views?
By blending traditional and modern design aesthetics, Elements of Truth aims to provide an engaging, approachable typographic design to reframe readers’ understanding of the impact of geometry within a philosophical context.
Despite the heavy, somewhat abstract subject matter, Elements of Truth aims to maintain a clear, simple, modern design style held within the foundations of a traditional book format.
The form of the book utilises a variety of page formats (tip-ins, French folds, volvelles galore) for an interactive reading experience. Simple, bold, clean typography and graphics provide a contemporary feel and prioritise clarity of understanding. When pondering one's epistemological values, one ought to be comfortable.
“The value of mathematics lays outside what it is that mathematics taught us in mathematical terms”
— Laura Kotevska, The Renaissance of Euclid’s ‘Elements’, 2018
